As you may have read, my body really needed some rest this week. I took some time off from exercising and came back more energized and motivated than before. Isn’t it great what a little recovery time can do for your body and mind?? Saturdays morning’s park workout was quite small, as 2 girls are out-of-town for the holiday weekend. Nonetheless we met up and worked out like champs!
This weekend’s bootcamp routine:
- Curtsey lunges with bicep curls
- Jumping squats
- Shoulder presses
- Leg lifts, inner thigh lifts (pilates moves)
- Upward Rows
- Tricep pullovers
We changed up our core work a bit too! We do the following sequence, each move for 60 seconds:
- Side planks
- V-up crunches
- Side crunches
- Flutter kicks
- Toe taps (weighted)
In between and after sets we fit in some cardio by jogging and doing fartleks.
Now for something light and refreshing!
Berry Patriotic Overnight Oats (every time I make a pun, I assure you…it is intended)
- 1/3 cup rolled oats
- 1-2tbsp chia seeds
- 1 cup almond milk
- 1 banana, sliced
- Handful of strawberries, sliced
- Handful of blueberries
Mix all ingredients together and refrigerate, covered overnight. These overnight oats were very light and refreshing and a bit patriotic!
I am very very excited to have a 3 day weekend. I have lots to do to get ready for my husband’s return from Afghanistan, so I plan to use this extra time to finally finish unpacking and getting our apartment in order! I have also already started on a very patriotic welcome home sign (no procrastination here, I am way too excited for that).

And remember, 4th of July is about more than just beer and BBQ: let’s not forget our countrymen who are currently serving in the military as well as those deployed overseas fighting for our freedom. It is so easy to forget the sacrifices young Americans make for their country. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers and if you know anyone who is serving…give them a call to say thank you! They deserve to know how much we appreciate them.
