Chocolate Covered Cherry Powerballs

Good Tuesday morning to you! Operation Early Riser commenced today with a wake-up call at 7:16am…although I didn’t hear my alarm for 3 minutes which has never happened before. I know when it comes time to start work I won’t have a problem getting up (you gotta do what you gotta do) but I just want it to not suck so bad.

I had planned to run this morning but yesterday’s leg workout has my entire lower body stiff and sore. Add that to the tailbone pain that isn’t dissipating and I figured I would just skip it, or at least postpone it. Sometimes just daily activities are enough to warm up and loosen my body…only time will tell. I still plan on hitting the gym for a chest and tricep workout later.

Right now I’m just enjoying my breakfast, which Rockie creepily watched me make…

And planning out the day. Today’s to-do list includes organizing the pantry, cleaning out my car, getting my oil changed, and making a dent in some work projects. Good thing that I have these powerballs to keep me fueled up!!


These tart little beauties are a variation of my original Raw Cacao Powerballs. In fact, the recipe is not much different although the taste certainly is. I used unsweetened dried cherries which are quite tart. You could use sweetened but I just think that adds unnecessary sugars. Being the chocolate lover that I am (she says as she is eating a chocolate chip protein pancake) I do prefer the Cacao Powerballs more but these were a nice change of pace and anyone who loves cherries should enjoy these as well (and don’t forget to check out my Chocolate-Covered Cherry Protein Smoothie!).


Chocolate-Covered Cherry Powerballs


  • 1 cup almonds
  • 1/2 cup dates
  • 1/2 cup dried cherries, packed
  • 1-2 tbsp. good quality cacao powder (or cocoa powder)
  • 2 tbsp. cacao nibs (or mini-chocolate chips)


  1. Wet almonds (this seems to help it stick better)
  2. Place almonds, dates, and cranberries in a food processor, run until the mixture starts to break down.
  3. Add cacao powder to the mix and run until the mixture is finely processed.
  4. Add nibs or chips and pulse to combine
  5. Roll mixture into small balls with hands. Makes about 20 powerballs (you could also make them in bar form)



Okay I’m off…those beans won’t organize themselves.

What Powerball combo should I try next? I’m thinking tropical with mango and coconut, yum!
