April Goals

A new month is upon us. I like to use each month as a new beginning…time to take inventory and to decide if there’s anything I want to work towards.

March brought me Whole Foods March and I so enjoyed getting into food and cooking again! I shared a lot of my favorite meals here on the blog and hopefully they inspired you as well. However, I can’t say I ate nothing but whole foods the entire month. There was candy, ice cream and plenty of junk food. When I started the “challenge” I knew I would eat only vegetarian foods as meat does not interest me anymore. However, I feel as though I relied too heavily on dairy and as a result didn’t feel as good as I know I am capable of feeling.

That being said, in April I am going to focus on eating a vegan, plant-based diet. For those of you that get confused (hey mom) vegetarians simply don’t eat meat/poultry/fish while vegans eat no animal products at all…meaning no dairy/eggs in anything. I feel like this will really help to cut out all of the vegetarian junk foods I’ve been eating (hello cheese-its, ice cream and candies) while improving my energy and digestion. I just can’t do dairy too well these days.

I also want to focus on increasing my daily activity. I’ve been wearing my fitbit and while I seem to hit 10k steps on the majority of days, sometimes I’m only at 5k by the end of the day!! I’d like to hit a total of 300,000 for the month which averages 10k steps per day. I will do this by walking more and adding more non-exercise movement in my day instead of parking it on the couch for hours at a time.

The Tone It Up Bikini Series also starts this month and I’m looking forward to it. It’s a completely free and fun challenge and if you’re looking for something to mix it up I highly recommend!!

I’ve also made the decision not to weigh myself in April. Just not feeling it.

March Makeover

The seeds of change have been planted!!

Oh wait, that’s just my wheatgrass.

Seriously though, do you ever have moments where things come together to create major positive change in your life? That is currently happening over here at MHH and I couldn’t be happier. So many big things are going on and I have made a positive mindset to truly embrace change.

My original training plan just didn’t fit with my new schedule so I tweaked it a bit. This one fits better and is still only a guideline, as I don’t have an actual race planned yet (although I have found quite a few to chose from!).

I have shaken up my regular routine this week and I am loving it! I feel like I am getting much more of a balance than before. I am combining a few different workouts throughout the week along with my training runs.

Best Body Bootcamp – I am currently enrolled in an 8 week online bootcamp program. Unfortunately, entry into the program is closed. We are just finishing up week 1 and I am glad to find it more challenging than I originally thought when I first saw the workouts (just ask my booty this morning, ouch!). The program is based upon 3 strength training sessions per week plus additional optional cardio. I mainly enrolled in the bootcamp because it is created by a NASM certified personal trainer and I thought it would be a great and affordable way to learn some new moves for my repertoire. Turns out I was right!

March Method Madness – I mentioned this program earlier in the week but I want to say again that you should check it out! This program runs throughout March and offers up free workouts, training calendars, and nutritional advice. I love For the Glow and am a huge fan of Jenn, so much so that I kind of feel like her creepy online stalker ­čśë The point is, she has great fitness and nutrition information that you need to check out! Sunday starts a “Clear Waste, Cinch Waist” Challenge.

Yoga – my original training plan factored in a weekly yoga class at our local rec center…yeah that never happened. However, I do love yoga and think it is a great addition to training ┬ábecause it stretches my hips and legs out so wonderfully. In the past, I have stuck to yoga DVDs but for some reason I never really “clicked” with any of them. Recently, I have just started to free-flow yoga on my own and I love it. I take 10-20 minutes at the end of my workouts just to move through the poses and stretches that feel good for my body. It is a great time to breathe, unwind, and truly connect with whatever needs a little TLC. I usually put on the “Spa Suite” pandora channel and go until I feel sufficiently relaxed.

Made over eating habits (whole big post on that to come)

I don’t know why it happened, but I’m glad it did. I have been a bit sugar crazy lately and it was really starting to affect my body and complexion. However, I haven’t had any sugar since Sunday (which is huge for me). Usually I have a hard time putting the sweets down but this week I have managed to ignore the chocolate chips in my pantry, the organic dark chocolate in my desk at work, and my favorite chocolate chip cookies that are currently in the freezer. I didn’t even set out to do it at first, but now that I’m doing so well I am focusing on keeping added sugars to a minimum. Treats should be just that…an occasional indulgence that is totally worth it. Not an everyday occurrence like I normally do. I’m still eating fruit and not putting a limit on it – just trying to stay away from sugar and processed sweets.

I am feeling so good that I plan on doing a whole “cleanse” at the end of the month. Nothing drastic, just a cleanse from sugar, soda, coffee, and processed foods.

I’m also getting in 100 + ounces of water daily as part of my bootcamp program goals and now that I have been doing it for 5 days my body is used to is so I’m not running to the bathroom every other minute. I am on a bit of a hydration schedule at work to make it easy to fit in all that H20. The best change I have made is to start the day with a 16oz glass of water. First thing in the morning I make sure to drink that water and it puts me on a healthy path for the day, not to mention I feel so refreshed and awakened from it. Give it a try! Many people recommend starting the day with lemon water or even lemon-cayenne water but I prefer plain ol’ aqua first thing.

I don’t know how to explain it, but I am just feeling an amazing positive energy right now! I am happy and full of life.

Overall I would say that daily sweat+plenty of veggies/fruits+100 ounces of water a day+dry brushing = I am feeling and looking better than ever!
